Going it homemade....

It is always fascinating when I go to the store and see all the prices of normal everyday items I need to have to keep this family of 5 going! Having to do at least 2 loads of laundry a day ends up costing a fortune. Luckily for me (and you) I love searching the internet for ways to save on everyday items!

I started my homemade venture by making laundry detergent from the huge gallons of liquid soap to powdered concentrate!

After a year I FINALLY found the one I think I'll be using forever...hopefully!

BUT if you'd like to try it and of course there is always a grater involved here ya go!

I always wear my dust/painters mask since the detergent seems to get a little dusty in some of the steps.

Recipe ingredients:

1 bar zote laundry soap (open it and set it out for a few days or weeks it will dry out and you can grate it better)

2 Cups borax
2 Cups washing soda
2 Cups oxi clean type powder (i've been loving the dirty jobs oxi clean)

Turn on the tv and grate the soap bar (You can use a food processor since I don't have one I use a small zester grater)
Add the grated soap in a Large bowl with the borax and washing soda. Mix well. Make sure your mask is in place because it can get a little dusty. For the ingredients to really mix up well and the soap to get as small as it can be to dissolve in even cold water, I had to get out my old ultimate chopper. You can also use a blender!
Add a cup at a time to get it mixed up and then add it all back in to the bowl. I usually have two bowls. Add in your oxi clean! Mix it all up and put it in an old container. I have used an old oxi clean container or even a small bucket will work.
Use 2 Tbs. in each load. I put the detergent in the bottom of the washer then add clothes.
