It never fails, with 3 kids and a hubby I ALWAYS get the crud or some form of sickness that 1 of them will bring home. Luckily I stopped taking antibiotics years ago since they were not helping at all. I used to get sinus infections like clockwork right around fall/winter time and always had to go to the doctor and get the SAME antibiotic. After awhile I would tell the doctor it wasn't working so they would put me on the same antibiotic that wasn't working for longer! Which as a woman taking antibiotics there are other not so great side effects that are a little worse then the sinus infection. It's like the commercials for the new prescription drugs, you go in to get medicine for your headache and you could end up with all kinds of side effects that are way worse then just a headache. I finally said no more antibiotics since I knew they weren't even helping me because as soon as I was done with the medication I would get sick within a week later. Since antibiotics kill the bad bugs and the good bugs it leaves your system weak to anything else out there.
Enter garlic! I love the smell of garlic the taste of garlic. I just love garlic! I started researching benefits of natural alternative remedies when I came across garlic. Garlic is a natural antibiotic that you could probably take more then the recommended dose and unlike prescription antibiotics there isn't really any side effects, except you could have garlic breath but then the vampires will leave you alone! Garlic won't hurt you in the long run like prescriptions could. I have my hubby take garlic pills everyday. It's very beneficial to you and if you start feeling the crud coming on take some garlic pills or another form. I take 2 garlic pills in the morning when I start feeling like something is coming to knock me down. Then I take 2 mid afternoon and 2 before bed. I haven't had a sinus infection in over 7 years!
There are many natural alternative remedies but garlic is probably my favorite. Since it comes in many different forms like pills, fresh, dried and it taste good too there isn't any reason not to try it! One of the many things that my kid's doctor told me years ago was that "All prescription medicine stems from a natural source." I would have to say he is the best doctor I've ever known! I would always check with your doctor first to make sure the garlic won't interact negatively to a prescription you're already taking or ailment you're suffering from.
It's hard for me as a mom to let being sick keep me from doing what I do but I'd rather knock it out before I get sick then be sick! Gotta go...I need to take my garlic!

It's a jeep thing.....
After getting my kiddos on the bus this morning I went into the garage to check on my 4 wheeled baby. She started right up...she's a good girl! She doesn't get driven in the winter but she has her own cozy room out of the elements! She is a 1986 CJ7 Laredo! I haven't been able to find out how many were manufactured but I've never seen one like her! She has some updated upgrades but nothing so extreme that it changes her much from her original beauty. Like I said she is my cruiser. I don't take her muddin or get her dirty, too much! My truck is my work horse and winter driver and my jeep is my fun summertime cruiser!
It took awhile to convince hubby she was a fun summertime cruiser and I finally changed his mind about "the jeep thing". He never "got it" but this last summer I finally turned him to the dark side! He likes to drive my jeep when we go out and about. Sometimes I have to get to her before he does when we go places since he wants to drive her...yep this could be a problem but I usually win...when I want to of course. ;) The only thing he doesn't jump into doing with my jeep is fixing her unless I need him for my muscle. Which is okay by me since I love working on her. She doesn't give me too much trouble most of the time it's just the window rod screw popped off or the door handle panel came loose. Easy peasy! I should do a blog about those....hmmm.
I can't wait for May 15, 2014, that's when she gets to come out and play! That is when I don't have to worry about anymore frozen roads, snow, rock trucks or chemicals on the road. Can't wait....Jeep wave!!

Watch out for the IRS tax scammers! 347-390-0789
I always "screen" calls that I don't know. Meaning if a number comes up on the caller id I'm on the computer searching who it is. Recently I received a phone call on our home phone (Yes, we still have our landline, it's hard to send a fax through a cell phone, the phone is too small I can fit the paper in it!). The name was coming up unknown BUT the number was coming up. So I let the person go to the answering machine as I was searching the number because USUALLY if there isn't a business name, most of the time it's a scammer or spammer trying to sell you something or get money from you. Of course they don't care about the Do not call list which we are on.
After searching the number (347-390-0789) I found out the call was part of the IRS tax scam that is going around. They'll call you telling you some fake common name and then tell you that you owe taxes and that you need to pay now or the sheriff/police are on their way. First off the IRS will send you a letter if you owe on your taxes and usually don't call you especially if you never even received a letter saying you owe. Of course never give any info to anyone over the phone. ONE huge clue I had was that the person that left a message...was asking for someone that hasn't owned this house in over 10 years but some how they linked up our address and phone number (different then what the other person had obviously) with the other persons name. So of course the scammers aren't very bright when it comes to actually looking up the number and name.
If you aren't sure it's a scam or not then hang up with the person on the phone claiming to be from the IRS and call your local IRS office and ask them if you owe and then if not, report the number to the Federal Trade Commission or the Treasury inspector general both found here http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam along with the warning from the IRS about the calls.

No rest for the wicked....appliances!
I was finally able to get over the whole "holiday seasons"! Halloween, childs birthday, sisters birthday, new nephews birthday (newly added not new born!), Thanksgiving, hubbys birthday, Christmas, New Years and last but not least youngest childs birthday! Yeah we have a busy few months in fall and winter! BUT of course that's where the wicked appliances come in.
It basically started with the mighty little toaster over we've had for almost 10 years. The toaster oven decided to not heat much anymore so instead of toast we would have semi toasted, soft toast! Or it would take a few cycles to toast it. Who has time for that. So the hubby and I went out before Christmas and picked up a new fancy little toaster oven that is big enough for a 12" pizza! BUT it was for our Christmas gift so we had to keep begging the old wore out toaster to last a couple more weeks (yeah I know we're weird like that). Well once Christmas FINALLY came around I took out the new bright and shiny toaster and put the other one in the garage for "the loner" toaster oven if by chance this one dies an early death.
Basically I figured once I got through Christmas all the wicked appliances would be good. YEAH RIGHT! Starting just before Christmas hubby happened to be getting a glass out of the cupboard and noticed it had a white film on it...mind you it was a blue see through glass...ew right? I figured oh dishwasher probably just needs some more vinegar in the rinse compartment (kinda like a cheap version of the jet dry rinse agent). So I filled the compartment and figured that was that (remember the year right). Well a few days later the glasses still look yucky and there was water build up on the dishes. As dread was settling I ignored it and hoped it would go away and fix itself. A few more days later and now the neglected dishwasher is not draining and the water that is murky and dirty is sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher with my "clean" dishes! Oh crap no more hoping it goes away.
Here comes momma with her tool kit. After pulling out the racks of the dishwasher I had to take the screws out of the bottom spinney thingy (hey I said I could fix stuff not know what they are called). After taking as much water out of the bottom of the dishwasher with rags, measuring cups and scoopers that I could find I finally could see through the murky yucky water to get more screws and the filter out. To my dismay the filter was one assembly that was sealed and the only way to fix those....*sigh* is to replace them. CRAP! So I did what any person that wants to save a few did. I added water to the filter screen and shook like crazy to get as much gunk out as I could. I cleaned any other gunk in the dishwasher I could see (grape stem) and put it all back together, crossed my fingers and filled a measuring cup with vinegar that I added to the top rack. Turned on the wicked appliance to the hottest temp water setting on normal cycle hoped I wouldn't have to pay someone to come out and fix it.
Once the cycle was finished I closed my eyes opened the door of the wicked dishwasher and slowly peeked in and do you know what was in the bottom of the dishwasher.....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I think the days leading up to the dishwasher finally holding water was trying to tell me to give it a good cleaning and get the grape stem out of the very bottom of all the screws and layers of washers, spinney things I could.
Now if the rest of the appliances would just behave long enough for me to get through this cold winter and another couple of birthdays, it will be all good!

Fixed my kenmore dryer!
After finding the heating element online I finally fixed the dryer! The heating element was $20 cheaper then the local appliance shops! I like to stay local but not if I can save as much as it would cost to fill my jeeps gas tank...ok maybe not fill it but at least half way filled!
Luckily the company I bought it from has super fast shipping! I had the part in 2 days (it was free shipping too) and the dryer fixed the same day the part arrived! I had already checked all the fuses to make sure the fuses weren't the reason the element went out! Since they were good to go I replaced the heating element and tried it out!
I still am using the umbrella line dryer (in the house of course!) but the extra couple minutes in the dryer once the clothes are dry are heaven! The clothes get fluffed up and nice and warm on these cold days that are only going to get colder! I also figured out since the clothes are already dry I only need to set the dryer to UNDER the 10 minute timed dry! So I won't need to use the dryer very much!
The only downfall since I fixed the dryer is last month of not using the heating element on the dryer we saved $5 on our electricity bill! Maybe I can keep that up by only using the dryer for a couple minutes a load!?!?

I always get random text messages from numbers telling me to sign up for their "free cash" or their loans. I usually just ignore and delete! Well a couple weeks ago I receive a text from a familiar number for i.glide.me I didn't click on the link but instead looked up i.glide. Turns out its an actual program for video messaging or something similar. The problem is, is that the person who "sent" the text didn't even know that she sent it. What happens is anybody who installs the i.glide app from the apple store or the google playstore automatically gives the app permission to send out a massive text to ALL contacts on their phone list. Just like the same message I received about trying it or join me on i.glide.
The problem is, is the unsuspecting people who download it, don't read the fine print that says the app WILL send a text to ALL of their contacts! So when that happens it sends a link to your contact list with a text then those people download and get MORE text sent to contacts. It's the never ending spam chain!
Next time you get a text with a link with an app or website. Check first if it's really being sent by the person or if its an app sending it. Sometimes it could even be a virus doing the same spam text just like in email messages when they say don't click links well don't if its a text either!

Taking out the cabinet (hubby was alittle shocked!)
Having a small house I wanted to get as much room out of it as possible! There is this small alcove area by the kitchen that I think was used for dishes maybe? On one of the days hubby was at work...I got to work! He was a bit surprised to see what I'd done!
The picture is a little fuzzy but you get the idea! I figured it was a built in cabinet for dishes or something! But its not being used for much but a holder! So after taking the top off (which was a pain) I realized...it wasn't built in but set in!
All the years of packing kids, grocery bags and laundry came into effect.....I pulled out the cabinet!
LOOK its the floors again! I think they are enticing me to rip up the old brown carpet! Yep its a 60's house love the green?!? I wasn't sure what to do with the space at the moment so I just stuck the cat tree there! EVENTUALLY I want to build our desk into it! It is a small space but I think it can be managed!
Of course since then I actually took the cat tree out and just but in a small bookcase and painted the walls!
